Erd\u00f6l selbst ist nicht biologisch abbaubar, zerf\u00e4llt jedoch im Laufe der Zeit in winzige Partikel, die als Mikroplastik bezeichnet werden.\r\n\r\nDiese Mikroplastiken setzen dann giftige Chemikalien in die Umwelt frei, die schlie\u00dflich in unsere Lebensmittel- und Wasserversorgung gelangen. Schildkr\u00f6ten k\u00f6nnen beispielsweise eine schwimmende Plastikt\u00fcte mit einer Qualle verwechseln.\r\n\r\nSie ersticken dann entweder oder ihre Atemwege blockieren und verstopfen ihren Magen.
