How to get to West Coast Viewpoint Koh Tao
Found right in the centre of Koh Tao, close to Two View Rock and high above Sairee beach, the West Coast viewpoint is one of the least known viewpoints on the island.
Sunset Views
West coast viewpoint offers another great location to watch the sunset over the west coast, the fact that it is often overlooked means it is generally quiet.
Sairee to the West Coast Viewpoint
To get to the West Coast viewpoint from Sairee, you need to take the turn off from Sairee Soi 1 as though you are heading towards Twin View Rock.
The turn off is as far as you can take a scooter so you will need to park here and continue on foot.
Once you have taken the turn off, follow the path (which is little more than a dirt track) up the hill until you reach the Twin Rock intersection.
West Coast Viewpoint from Tanote Bay
Alternatively, if you are heading over from the east coast, take the Tanote Bay road until you get to the turn off for the reservoir and Love Koh Tao.
Take this turn off and follow the path past the reservoir and you will also reach the Twin Rock intersection.
You are given a view across both the east and west coast of the island, so this can be a great place to stop and take a few pictures.
You will then need to take the left turn at the intersection and head west to reach the left side of the West Coast viewpoint.
West Coast Viewpoint
Walk down the road for approximately 5 minutes and you will come to two boulders leaning on each other. Pass through the boulders and you have arrived.
The viewpoint itself is a large, flat rock that can take up to 10 people. You will need to be careful, though, as there are no guard rails around the area.
Panoramic Views from West Coast Viewpoint
The fantastic view of the Koh Tao west coast shows Koh Nangyuan, Sairee beach, Mae Haad Bay and even as far south as Jansom Bay.
Whilst this is a great place to catch the sunset and can be a more romantic location for couples, the conditions for photos can be best in the morning, but don’t let that stop you from taking the trip up.
Strong Footwear
The road up is little more than a dirt track and contains a lot of loose gravel that can be slippery, so it is safer to wear comfortable shoes with good grip when hiking to the West Coast viewpoint.
Stay Hydrated
You need to carry water with you, as there is nowhere to buy it on the way without a detour and sunglasses or a hat are advisable as well.
It gets very hot at the top of any of the Viewpoints on Koh Tao, so plan your trip carefully and let someone know your plans.
Amazing Photo Opportunities
If you are also looking for some good photo opportunities of the east coast, you can visit Tanote Peak, which is around 300m from the Twin Rock intersection. From the West Coast viewpoint, it is approximately a 10-minute walk.
Koh Tao Two Views Café & Restaurant
Koh Tao Two Views is another superb location to witness the stunning beauty of the west coast of Koh Tao and you can also buy food and drink whilst relaxing and enjoy the amazing views.
